7th Century Kingship
A Journey Through The Origins of Kingship and the coming of Celtic Christianity
Step back into the formative centuries of Scotland’s border country, when kings ruled from hillforts and sacred glens, and the roots of Scottish identity were being shaped. This full-day, small-group journey from Edinburgh traces the landscapes of early medieval kingship; exploring ancient sites, legends, and rituals that defined power in the 7th century.
Guided by an expert in Scottish history and folklore, you’ll visit evocative ruins, early Christian centres, and landscapes once walked by warrior-kings and saints. Along the way, we’ll uncover how faith, clan, and kingdom intertwined.
The tour includes a visit to an artisan distillery and private whisky tasting, but is also home to a replica of a 7th Century Royal Palace so you can taste in style!
